What is ToFD?
Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD) is an advanced ultrasonic testing technique used to detect and size flaws, particularly cracks, in welds and other materials. It works by measuring the time it takes for ultrasonic waves to travel to and from the tips of a flaw, rather than relying on reflected amplitude like conventional ultrasonic methods.
This allows for accurate sizing of defects, including height and depth, making it a valuable tool for assessing structural integrity.
